About Zycomm
Zycomm was established in 1979 with the aim of filling a gap in the mobile radio market - a gap which meant that many small to medium sized organisations were being inadequately served by the communications industry of the day.
Zycomm is privately owned by Zycomm Holdings Ltd which is in turn owned by Zycomm's Chairman Ian Sneap. It is now a multi million dollar business in its mobile radio activities alone. The 30 years of successful trading have resulted in the two company’s now having a very strong balance sheet and asset base.
The company's philosophy is based on providing high quality two-way radio equipment selected to meet the customer's requirements. The systems engineering department has a strong tradition of problem-solving expertise aimed at overcoming real and potential communications problems and at offering long term and flexible solutions rather than short term off-the-shelf answers which would ultimately prove inadequate.
The company boasts an extensive range of equipment from handportable radios to mobile and base station units, where appropriate. All its products can be fully integrated into a complete and comprehensive two-way communications management system.
Over the past 30 years Zycomm has built up an impressive track record of growth, supplying an ever widening spectrum of customers ranging from farmers, construction firms, doctors' deputising services, security companies, universities and airports to the more complex requirements of the police, the armed forces, the utilities and local authorities.
A successful performance in terms of turnover and profits has been matched by the company's reputation within its sector. Zycomm now holds BS ISO9002 and RQAS accreditation following first being awarded BS5750 quality assurance accreditation as long ago as 1989.
In 1980 the company obtained the first license to be granted by the licensing authority, enabling it to set up and operate the UK's first Community Repeater. In 1988 Zycomm became the first Regional Band III Trunked Radio Network Operator for the East Midlands Region.
Today Zycomm continues to operate this Zycall regional trunk from three linked prime aerial sites throughout the Midlands together with a total of 20 Community Repeaters operating from five of its own radio sites and other selected sites throughout the country. Zycomm has also expanded its hilltop aerial sites from the first one at Alport Heights in Derbyshire to sites all over England. These sites and facilities are available to customers and service providers alike.
In 1989 Zycomm funded the start up of Eurocom Developments Ltd marking a turning point in its long term diversification strategy. Eurocom now has over 250 employees and is very successful in the entertainment software development business.
W3Z Wireless Broadband was the parallel technology we ventured into in 2003. A local requirement by 'Digital Wirksworth' caused us to investigate our ability to provide Wireless Broadband to cover the Market Town and this resulted in us gaining 300 satisfied customers whilst BT were still thinking about it. Now some 5 years on W3Z (our Wireless ISP Division) is serving some 2000 very satisfied customers throughout the central swath of the county and a large part of the Derbyshire Peak District. The technology we have developed at W3Z has now been added back into Zycomm Two Way Radio so together with new distributorships in Microwave Link equipment we can now offer wide area and local Wireless Networks to satisfy both Industrial and Country Estates alike. W3Z now not only offers high quality uncontended Broadband at a variety of speeds, with our Web Hosting and IP Consultancy, the diversification is now forming a major adjunct to the business.
In 1991, the company supplemented its OEM product range and made a major commitment to a partnership with the Kenwood Corporation. It launched the Kenwood mobile radio range in 1991 and has become Kenwood's leading UK distributor of communication products. This move has further enhanced the quality of service that Zycomm provides to its customers. In addition to Kenwood a long established 'inverted' relationship with New Zealand's Tait Electronics is maintained. Zycomm was, in 2007, appointed to UK Distribution status for HYT of Shenzhen China. HYT are a rapidly developing relative new manufacturer who have a phenomenally rapid development program and were looking for a Distributor capable of complimenting their growth.
An impressive headquarters in Ripley Derbyshire houses Zycomm's staff covering strategic planning, administration, R & D, marketing, service and system engineering together with sales. At Ripley, Zycomm's customers are welcome to see the planning and expertise that goes into providing solutions for their systems.
Zycomm prides itself in being a leading independent authority in the radiocommunications industry. It places strong emphasis on product knowledge, innovation and system design, which makes the most of the latest technological and market advances such as MPT Trunking and Data Technology or even the simplest of low cost, new solutions, PMR446/Short Range Business Radio.
