Herbert Fryer Announces his Retirement

Herbert has announced his retirement from Zycomm Engineering after 26 years of service with the Company. He hangs up his soldering iron for the last time on Thursday July 31st after doing a year's overtime after the normal retirement age of 65.

When he joined Zycomm he had been made redundant from his previous position as Service Manager at the Telefusion in Heanor (Radio & TV group) who were reorganising themselves prior to being sold to the Radio Rentals Group in the mid 1980's.

Herbert, who as you can see is Zycomm's look-a-like equivalent of that other fine chap Terry Waite, has become 'a fiend' to our dealer customers over the years. It is Herbert who has been responsible for doing the impossible by getting that urgent item out 'that night', after the last 'Interlink' collection has been made. He has frequently been known work on equipment after hours and to take last minute dealer orders to the local Interlink depot on his way home. With Herbi's departure you dealer guys you will now need to phone us 2 hours earlier!

Until last year it was Crown Green Bowling that dominated his life outside the workshop but this year we have seen a worrying shift towards the 18th Green and a frightening trend to take each Friday off as holiday to play the G game. We all know what happens at the 19th!

Whatever the 'interest of the day' we all wish Herbi the very best of health and enjoyment in a long and happy retirement. He has asked to retain a set of keys for when the Alarm goes off in the early hours and the rest of us are away or abroad on business. How can we refuse him the ability to sneak a quick look at 'his bench' and ensure it has been left tidy at 05:00 in the morning?

None of them can understand what he means and why he is increasingly referring to something he calls valves which have something called anodes, cathodes and grids inside them? Last week Dan surfed the Internet for a cure and this resulted in him turning Herbert's Variable Regression Control down and that has helped a little.
