The college didn’t have any communication solution to help with the day to day running of the college. For the maintenance staff in particular, who move over vast areas of the site it caused them issues when trying to contact their own team members and other colleagues from other departments within the college. It left them vulnerable when having instances of working alone in remote locations around the site.
The only time radios were used on site was when the college was hosting conferences but the coverage the radios provided was poor so were often more a hindrance then a help.
Any radio solution which was to be proposed must include a model of radio that was rugged, robust, easy to use and reliable due to the nature of the environment they were being used in.
